Motswiri Tented Camp
Motswiri Tented Camp is situated on the Wild At Tuli Reserve, in amongst beautiful leadwood trees and koppies. It is an unfenced camp and animals come and go as they please. At the floodlit waterhole you can see anything from kudu and impala to bush pigs, porcupine and leopard. Hyena and elephant occassionally wander through camp much to the delight of guests.
Motswiri Tented Camp has a central lounge / dining / kitchen / boma area and and outside boma area with fire pit and pizza oven. A covered thatch gazebo provides shade during the day.
You can cater for yourselves or we can provide a fully catered option and all you need to do is bring your drinks. Jane Manyatsa’s food is delicious and she can cater for special dietary requirements.
The open plan kitchen is equipped for self catering and includes gas fridges/freezers and a pantry for storing food. There is a cloakroom outside the kitchen for guests use and a utility room for washing up.
Accommodation is in 8 Meru tents , two of which have ensuite bathrooms , and there is a central ablution block shared by guests, with 6 showers , 6 toilets and 4 hand basins.
The camp is lit using solar power and gas is used for fridges and freezers.
It is an ideal environment for families / groups of friends who need to get away from their hectic lives and just reconnect with nature, The only sounds you will hear are those of the animals moving around the Reserve.
It is in this camp that we can take group bookings from guests who wish to participate in the running of the Reserves and take part in the many activities needed to keep the Reserve running from a Conservation point of view. We have hosted hundreds of people since 2013, who have contributed to our Conservation efforts and enjoyed the physical activites as well as the conservation debates, learning how to bird watch and conducting census activities which gather data that we use in an effort to get the Central Tuli Block declared a protected area.
Activites
Game Drives - Self Drive or book our Professional Guide for a Game Drive. You have access to 10,000 hectares of unspoilt wilderness which includes a number of waterholes as well as hides to game view from.
Jenda Hide - Enjoy dinner and sleep out under the stars in our secure hide which overlooks a big waterhole. This hide was built in memory of a man named Jenda, who spent his life working with elephants in Las Vegas and finally understood that they should roam free.
Conservation Debate - Join Dr Helena Fitchat in a participative debate and discuss all things conservation - we have learned from many guests and they have learnt from us.
Introduction to Bird Watching - Bird watching is one of the biggest activities in the world and once you have learnt how to identify birds it becomes a personal challenge to see how many you can tick off. The Tuli Block has nearly 400 species of birds and includes many eagles (Verraux, Tawny, Brown Snake Eagle ), the elusive Pels Fishing owl, Kori bustard and ground horn bills.
Basket and Bracelet Weaving - we can arrange for your to join our local ladies and learn how to make bracelets using local materials.
